Artist Rendition of Toni Morrison with the wording Calling All Artists! Toni Morrison Poster Contest

LPLS INVITES STUDENTS LIVING OR ATTENDING SCHOOL IN LORAIN COUNTY TO EXPRESS YOUR CREATIVITY AND SHOWCASE YOUR TALENT IN OUR ANNUAL TONI MORRISON CONTEST!

Lorain County students in kindergarten through college are invited to choose one of two inspiring Toni Morrison quotations and create an original piece of artwork reflecting its meaning:

“When you know your name,
you should hang on to It,
for unless it is noted down and remembered,
it will die when you do.”
OR
“Things that make us hurt one another.
We don’t even know why.
But look here, don’t carry it inside ad don’t give it to nobody else.
Try to understand it, but if you can’t, just forget it and keep yourself strong, man.”

Artwork should be drawn horizontally and be either 12 inches by 18 inches or 8.5 inches by 11 inches in size (under/oversized work will not be eligible) and drawn on white posterboard or white drawing paper (no lines). Artwork must be original (no traced, trademarked or copyrighted characters, slogans, etc.).

Submit your artwork beginning Oct. 1 by scanning it as a .jpeg with at least 300 dpi resolution to morrisonposter@lpls.info or drop it off at any LPLS branch. Include your contact information, school name if applicable, and for participants aged 18 and under, provide the name of your teacher, parent or caregiver. The deadline for submission is Nov. 15.

Judging will take place in January and the winning pieces in each age category will have their work framed and displayed in the Toni Morrison Reading Room at the Main Library for one year.
