Q&A While Library is Closed

Released On: 3/17/2020

Lorain Public Library System is temporarily closed until further notice.

Can I still get an audiobook or stream a movie?

  • Yes! All of our eLibrary resources are up and running. You do not need a special card for these resources, your regular Lorain Public Library System card gives you access!

I have some library materials checked out that will be due before the library reopens. What do I do with them?

  • Hold on to whatever library materials you currently have. Do not risk making a special trip to the library just to place them in the bookdrop. Fines will not accumulate.

I had received a notice that an item that I had on hold had come in. Will it still be at my branch when you reopen?

  • Yes, all materials that were on the hold shelves when we closed will still be there when we reopen.

I just heard about a book that I’d like to check out when you reopen. Can I place a hold on it now?

  • Unfortunately, no. If you had an item on hold before our closure, it will remain on hold and you will not lose your place in line. However, we are unable to place new holds during the closure. This affects everyone and as soon as you can place holds, we will let you know right here on this website and via social media.

I hadn’t used my library card in a while but now that I’m stuck at home, I’d like to use the eLibrary resources. How can I renew my card if it expires between now and when the library reopens?

  • We have extended card expirations so that patrons can continue to utilize our eLibrary resources

What about passport applications?

Can I still get Books By Mail?

  • We have had to temporarily suspend this service until the branches reopen. We encourage you to visit our eLibrary for ebooks audiobooks and video. No special card is needed, your regular Lorain Public Library System card gives you access.

I heard I can still get free WiFi at the library. Is this true?

  • Yes, you should be able to receive a WiFi signal from your car while in the parking lot of any of our six branches.
