New Years Resolution

It’s a new year and a new you with the help of the Lorain Public Library System.

No matter what your resolution for 2020, we have a variety of programs to reach your goals! 

If you want to be healthier…

There’s our Healthy Super Snacks programs that will be held at five of our branches. This program will give you simple, healthy recipes to share with your friends during an annual night full of snacking. Dates and times:

  • Jan. 23, 6 to 7 p.m., Main Library
  • Jan. 28, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Avon Branch
  • Jan. 28, 6 to 7 p.m., South Lorain Branch
  • Jan. 29, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., North Ridgeville Branch
  • Jan. 30, 6 to 7 p.m., Domonkas Branch

We also have a wide range of exercise programs for all skill levels, including yoga classes at the Main, Columbia, Domonkas and South Lorain branches in addition to Zumba at the Domonkas Branch and Tai-Chi for Arthritis at the South Lorain Branch.

Dates and times:

  • Yoga for Beginners, Saturdays at 11 a.m. to noon beginning Jan. 25, Main Library
  • Chair Yoga, Mondays at 10:30 a.m., Columbia Branch
  • A.M. Yoga, Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. through Feb. 13, Domonkas Branch
  • Yoga for Beginners, Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., South Lorain Branch
  • Zumba, Saturdays at 3 p.m. Jan. 11, Feb. 1 and Feb. 8, Domonkas Branch
  • Tai-Chi for Arthritis, Tuesdays at 11 a.m., South Lorain Branch

The South Lorain Branch will also be offering a Four Weeks to Better Health program at 6 p.m. Tuesdays in February, covering plants over pills, the human microbiome, sleep 101 and other topics.

If you want to be more organized…
Join us at the Main Library for a program geared towards channeling your organization. At 6 p.m. Jan. 16, use a little science to learn to leverage that part of your brain in The Organized Mind. The Domonkas Branch will also be offering Intro to Bullet Journals at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 to teach the basics of these self-stylized task managers, journals, sketch pads and more. 

If you want to get more involved…
Join any of our five Friends of the Library groups: Lorain, Avon, Columbia, Domonkas and North Ridgeville. These organizations are responsible for the quarterly book sales and other fundraising and volunteer opportunities at each branch. 

The Domonkas Branch will also be hosting A Month of Service honoring Martin Luther King Jr. during January. There will be open sessions of knitting and crocheting and at the end of the month, the completed works will be donated to a local charity. It’s also an opportunity to learn a new skill and meet other community members.

We have several writers’ groups throughout the system aimed at offering various exercises, peer critiques and support for whatever project you’re working on.

There are a variety of book clubs and discussions throughout the system no matter what you like to read. These offer a great way to meet new members of your community and read stories you wouldn’t normally checkout. All of the book clubs will be focusing on Toni Morrison the month of February in celebration of Toni Morrison Day on Feb. 18.
