LPLS Partners with City Fresh

Released On: 6/9/2019

Bring a healthy appetite to the Lorain Public Library System this summer as we partner with City Fresh to provide fruits and vegetables from local farms directly to downtown Lorain.

LPLS Main Branch Manager Susan Spivey said City Fresh aims to provide fresh produce to communities in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties that live in a food desert where grocery stores have closed and left low-income residents without access to healthy food.

“The library is invested in helping the community,” she said. “We're already involved in several programs in which we either provide food to those in need and/or teach our visitors about nutrition and wellness. This is a natural next step for us.”

Every Tuesday beginning June 11, the parking lot of the Main Branch, located at 351 W. Sixth Street, will be a weekly pick-up location called a “Fresh Stop” for City Fresh customers who order online, in person or by mail.
“We're incredibly excited to become a Fresh Stop location,” Spivey said. “It's one of many new exciting things happening at the Main Branch this summer.”

City Fresh customers will benefit from limited-income pricing and week-to-week ordering. The LPLS Fresh Stop location will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. until October.

Other Lorain County Fresh Stops include:

  • Willard Memorial Square, Wellington, 5 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays
  • Lorain County Urban League, Elyria, 2:30 to 4 p.m., Wednesdays
  • El Centro, Lorain, 3 to 5 p.m., Wednesdays
