Q&A While Library is Closed

Released On: 5/11/2020

Lorain Public Library System is temporarily closed until further notice.

How do I use Curbside Service?

Place holds on materials through the library catalog or by call the library. For additional information, visit the Curbside Service page.

Can I still get an audiobook or stream a movie?

Yes! All of our eLibrary resources are up and running. You do not need a special card for these resources, your regular Lorain Public Library System card gives you access!

I have some library materials checked out that will be due before the library reopens. What do I do with them?

You may return items to the exterior book drops at any of our six branches.

I returned an item yesterday. Why is it still appearing on my card?
All items returned to Lorain Public Library System are quarantined for 72 hours.

I had received a notice that an item that I had on hold had come in. Will it still be at my branch when you reopen?
Yes, all materials that were on the hold shelves when we closed will be available via curbside pick-up, which will begin the week of May 18. You will receive a notice when your hold is available. Please do not go to your branch prior to receiving the notification.

I just heard about a book that I’d like to check out when you reopen. Can I place a hold on it now?
Yes, you can place a hold on any available Lorain Public Library System materials for curbside pick-up starting May 18. Unfortunately, other Clevnet materials are not currently available.

I hadn’t used my library card in a while but now that I’m stuck at home, I’d like to use the eLibrary resources. How can I renew my card if it expires between now and when the library reopens?
We have extended card expirations so that patrons can continue to utilize our eLibrary resources. Renewals can also be done over the phone during curbside pick-up hours starting May 18.

What about passport applications?

We have had to temporarily suspend passport services until the branches reopen. For applicants with more immediate travel plans, please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/where-to-apply.html to locate your nearest acceptance facility. For additional information on travel visit travel.state.gov.
