Make the Web Work for You: Using Digital Skills to Find Employment

Released On: 6/4/2019

The Lorain Public Library System has been selected to participate in Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) and the Public Library Association (PLA), sponsored by Grow with Google, the tech company’s economic opportunity initiative.

LPLS will use the funding to learn digital and practical job seeking skills and how to use them to help find employment.

"I am very excited for this opportunity,” said Sam Lewis, LPLS Strategic Initiatives Manager. “Helping job seekers is a key component of our role as a community hub, so helping them build and develop critical digital skills is huge. I am very thankful to Libraries Lead and Grow with Google for helping us make this a reality."

The event will feature speakers from Lorain County Community College, Ohio Means Jobs and KM Career Coaching and is made possible through a $1,000 grant.

The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 22 at the Main Branch, 351 W. Sixth Street, and will cover topics including: resume writing for online applications, online job search platforms, utilizing social media to appeal to hiring managers and interviewing skills, tips and practice.

Lunch will be provided.
