Build A Better World - Summer Library Program

Read, Play & Win Books

5/3/2017 -- We’ll be creating, taking care of our earth, and building better communities in this year’s Summer Library Program. Running from June through August, it’s open to kids, teens and adults.

Come read, attend fun events and win books!

Participants, from birth through 12th grade, will earn free books for reading and participating in activities during the summer. We have a summer program for adults too. Learn more in our libraries.

The summer program is about encouraging everyone to experience the joy of reading and learning, and be active. Whether outdoors or indoors, let’s get moving.

Beach Party Kickoff

The fun begins on June 3 at our ninth annual Summer Library Program Beach Party Kickoff at Lakeview Park in Lorain. The beach party is cosponsored by the Lorain Public Library System (LPLS) and the Lorain County Metro Parks. The all-ages event, which runs from noon to 3 p.m., will include games, educative activities, face painting and a special performance by the Barbies of Steel City dance squad!

Track Your Reading & Activities to Earn Books

Beginning on June 5, visit our libraries, visit or click here to get your reading and activity log. If you’d like, read for 15 minutes at a time and choose activities like planting a tree, building a toy block tower, reading to a family member or coming to our summer library events. See our events online or in our summer newsletter. Infants and toddlers can also participate because listening to stories counts as reading time.

When you’ve read for five hours and completed five activities, bring your record back in to receive a free book!

Psst! Let us know what you’re reading and the library events you enjoy. Share your photos with us and get the latest summer program info on our social media using the hashtag #LPLSSummerLearning. This is optional and not a program requirement for earning books.

Let’s build a better world together this summer!
