Teen Summer Reads

List Compiled by Megan Anderson, teen librarian

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Hannah Baker is dead, and she has left a series of cassette tapes explaining why. This powerful book brilliantly shows the effects that even our smallest actions can have upon others. Read and understand.

The Giver by Lois Lowry

A Newberry Medal Winner and pretty much the forerunner to today’s dystopian novels, Lois Lowry’s The Giver started it all. Set in a future “perfect” world, Jonas is chosen to complete his life’s work as the community’s memory. Read the book before the movie!

The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen

Sarah Dessen offers another wonderful beach read. Join Emaline during her summer between high school and college, when she has difficult decisions to make regarding her family, her future and her education. Romance and a summer fling just might be in the offing.

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

The Garretts and the Reeds are next door neighbors. They are also complete opposites in every respect. Will romance ensue? Read it and find out.
