Thank You Friends For Supporting The Lorain Public Library System!
By Ingrid Rivera, Public Relations Associate
The members help form the backbone and foundation of our Library System.
Their enthusiasm is a driving force, a propeller behind the scenes.
Friends are the people who join book sale fundraising efforts, advocate and promote our Library System.
Friends advocate for state library funding and participate in local library levy campaigns.
“The Library gives you access to so many different things and so many different cultures. It broadens your horizons. You have a whole world open to you at the Library,” said Elaine Walkden, Lorain Friends President.
So being a Friends member for Walkden, “it’s a wonderful way to give back.”
Lorain Public Library System has five Friends groups: the Friends of the Lorain Public Library, Inc., that supports our Main Library, South Lorain Branch and the Bookmobile; the Friends of the Avon Library; The Friends of the Columbia Library, Inc.; the Friends of the Domonkas Public Library of the Lorain Public Library System; and The Friends of the North Ridgeville Branch Library, Inc.
The proceeds of the Lorain Friends book sales and membership dues fund programs that the levies can’t cover, Walkden said.
The Lorain Friends help fund a variety of family, children, teen and adult programs at the Main Library and South Lorain Branch Library including the live Music at Main, Shred Day, Zumba and more!
Pictured here is the Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble who performed at our Main Library's live music series, sponsored by the Lorain Friends.
They help fund prizes and giveaways for the summer reading programs and the Lorain International Festival as well as fund scholarships for qualifying library staff.
Each Friends group supports its library branch differently, but all Friends groups are highly beneficial.
Thank you Friends for supporting our Library System!
